Dear Me: Writing Love Letters to Yourself
2 min read

A couple of days ago, I had a spur-of-the-moment idea: hosting a workshop for Valentine’s Week. I wanted it to be open to both couples and singles while staying aligned with my letter-writing business. And so, Dear Me: Writing Love Letters to Yourself was born.
Sarah, the owner of the café where I planned to hold the workshop, was incredibly helpful in brainstorming ideas. Though, to be honest, I had already made the event poster before we even started brainstorming. Hahaha! That’s how fast I get when excitement kicks in.
I carefully considered the materials and where to source them. Luckily, Common Room PH hosted their Creative Restore Event, where crafters could sell destashed items. It was the perfect opportunity to stock up on stationery, so I bought everything I needed and even got the sellers' contact details in case I needed more supplies.
But then… no one registered when I first posted the event. I wasn’t even sure if my followers were interested. Three days passed, and then finally, one person signed up—Kaye. She had already attended three of my workshops and supported my letter-writing business. Then came another—Marian, the very first person to support my letter-writing products. A few days later, more people joined, and we ended up with a total of eight participants! I was beyond happy and excited! I was also able to recover the cost of the materials and the adorable mailbox I had purchased online for over 3,000 Php. haha! And honestly, that mailbox is so cute, I know I’ll be putting it to good use.
On the day of the workshop, I finally met my eight participants, and let me tell you—they were all fun! Each one was a successful individual with a passion for writing and journaling. Their energy was contagious, making me want to create and write even more.
For the session, I prepared a structured work plan with writing prompts. The teacher in me naturally took over! I planned the details as if I were crafting a lesson plan. My goal was to spend less time talking and instead give them the time and space to create. I took on the role of a guide, helping them shape their letters in a way that felt meaningful to them. I love workshops like this, where creativity flows freely, materials are readily available, and everyone feels encouraged to craft and make something artsy.
God knows I love staying behind to chat with my participants after a workshop; I’m usually the last to leave. But last Sunday was different. I had to head straight home for work. Still, later that night, some participants sent me thank-you messages, telling me how much they loved the event.
That meant the world to me!
I am beyond grateful to share this craft with others. Here’s to more workshops in the future! ✨
